The Bishop’s House

We worked on this statement home alongside Charlton Brown Architects and the main contractor Laxcon. The client set only one brief – to flood each space with light, on which Charlton Brown truly delivered, via the triple height entrance hall that allows light to enter every level of the home. Shape created bespoke joinery that enhanced the luxurious nature of each space, from custom furniture to giant sliding doors and matching wall panelling.

In the basement cinema room, we created bespoke metal tables from powder-coated steel, topped with beautiful Verde Alpi marble. This stone perfectly compliments the lush green walling that trickles down the lightwell outside of floor to ceiling windows.

Up on the ground floor, custom-stained Oak double pocketing doors match the timber walkways and flooring that intersect the light-filled atrium. Dark Bronze ironmongery is set beautifully within bespoke beading creating a sophisticated aesthetic for the doors.

The sitting room is at the heart of the home, and this needed to offer some ‘wow’ factor befitting the rest of the property. We helped create this by installing signature pieces of furniture and joinery that added to the sense of grandeur in this stunning space.

Floor-to-ceiling wall panelling and matching fireplace surround, again in a custom stain, provided the perfect backdrop for the statement contemporary chandelier.

In the dining room, the pocket doors, wall panelling, and 180° pivot doors leading through to the kitchen all match, creating the illusion of a fully panelled space when closed. When open, the sliding doors pocket fully, forming a dramatic framed view of the hallway, and the kitchen doors swing back, concealing themselves as part of the wall. The remaining wall panelling cleverly hides an FCU unit, whilst still allowing access for maintenance.

In the cloak room and study, beauty and functionality combine in the form of joinery perfectly suited to each space, providing maximum storage within expertly crafted cabinets.

Recessed bespoke Bronze handles in the cloak room compliment those used in the hallway and sitting room, and are matched by the metal supports used within the internal pull-out shoe racks.

In the study, recessed LED lighting highlights the bookmatched grain of the stained Oak, alongside the client’s books and artefacts collected from their travels. The minimalist desk overlooking the leafy garden provides the perfect setting for tranquil work or study.

Within the master bedroom, the headboard adds a structured use of space to the large room, offering abundant storage behind, which matches both the dressing room and walk-in closet, each situated within the master suite. The pinkish hues of white-washed Ash, combined with the delicate beading, soften these otherwise imposing spaces, whilst the dark stained Oak and custom Bronze handles add a flair of the dramatic. Every detail was considered, from the bespoke internal drawer dividers for accessories, each lit from above with recessed lighting, to the Bronze feature hinges that align with the bead detail throughout the external facade.

In the master bathroom, the Oak vanity and recessed shelving provide plenty of storage, and adds warmth to the statement marble and hardware used elsewhere. The pocket sliding doors are in matching timber, with bespoke Bronze recessed handles, and allow the bathroom to remain part of the master suite, or be closed off as needed.

Elsewhere, in the guest suites, statement bead details are the central focus; in one suite, intricate detailing creates stunning shadows as they play across neutral spraywork; in the next, Brass inlay coordinates with the feature chandelier hung above, whilst contrasting the dark stain of the Oak doors.

All the wardrobes are lit from within by LED lighting on sensors, set to turn on once the doors are opened, displaying the clients beautiful collection of apparel.

In one ensuite, a bespoke metal framed mirror conceals the Oak framed storage hidden behind; in another, a unique mirrored vanity creates illusions in a bathroom littered with black and white grids.
