The Cheshire House

We undertook extensive work throughout The Cheshire House, an impressive detached family home in North London. This included wall panelling, boot room, utility, study, two-storey library, dressing rooms, staircases, sliding and hinged doors, and bathroom furniture and vanities. Working to an exciting brief, incorporating unique details and playful colour schemes, the resulting collection of joinery is an eclectic mix of styles that allowed us to let our creativity free and our technical ability shine.

Within the living room, classical, square edged wall panelling creates a refined aesthetic and peaceful ambience, and accentuates the feature Brown Oak portal doorways that lead through to the children’s playroom. These accommodate in-built bookshelves, media storage and back-to-back pocket doors to ensure privacy and peace and quiet can be had when required!

The children’s playroom cabinetry provides plenty of storage, as well as twin hidden writing desks and a feature chalkboard wall to let their imaginations run wild.

In the cloakroom, a pared-back AB Walnut vanity complements the unique wall tiling created from dominoes and feature wall lights.

The boot room caters for hectic family life with various sized cubbies to store plenty of shoes and coats. In an annex studio space, we created a pegboard wall and storage from Birch Ply to service the client’s business needs.

Elsewhere downstairs, a classic shaker style laundry room provides plenty of storage and the 60mm end grain Oak Butcher Block offers a robust and beautiful work surface.

Recessed LED lighting guides the occupants up and highlights the careful craftsmanship of the integrated handrail.

Within the study, a two-toned blue colour palette and feature lighting creates a focussed environment for work, and the inbuilt seating provides the perfect spot to review papers and catch up on some light reading. Adjacent to this, a staircase wraps itself up behind the two-storey library, forming a distinctive space, lit by the full length skylight above.

The two-storey library creates an impressive gallery space to display the client’s extensive book collection. Brown Oak was used throughout, chosen to complement the timber floor and for its luxurious warmth and caramel tones. A hidden bookcase pivot door adds to the playful personality of the house.

Continuing the playful theme, the children’s dressing room features a multitude of distressed sprayed doors complemented by smoked ceramic handles. Two of these leads to their respective bedrooms, the others opening to reveal dressing tables and wardrobes, all lit by accent recessed LED lighting.

In the children’s bathroom, we fabricated and installed a custom vanity unit, with tarnished Brass frame and Linen Corian vanity top, whilst in the bedrooms the whimsey continues with the creation of an Alice in Wonderland door that connects the both bedrooms.

A floating cabinet utilising Altofina laminate bonded to Birch Ply forms a colourful and practical storage unit in one of the bedrooms.

The master-suite is the crowning jewel of the property. The dressing room combines classical square edged 4-panelled sprayed doors and American Black Walnut cabinetry with accent LED lighting for a luxurious, timeless finish. The panelling continues in the bedroom, creating a feature wall for the fireplace and integrated TV, complimented by a wrap-around bench seat to create a serene and soothing space to relax. These spaces connect to the bathroom through the large portal doorways with pocket sliding doors and recessed bronze ironmongery. Within this contemporary bathroom, large bookcases offer space to place toiletries, towels, trinkets and more of the client’s extensive book collection. The American Black Walnut beautifully complements the custom twin vanity and the bespoke, heated, towel rail adds distinctive personality and completes the space.

Within the guest suite, we retained a more classical style, combining sprayed, shaker style cabinetry with Brown Oak tops and shelving, whilst the custom vanities in the bathrooms references the other spaces and pieces in the house.

At the top of the house, space is maximised with a mezzanine level accommodating a feature bathroom space. We created this impressive addition with red Linseed oiled Douglas Fir and custom ironmongery.

The integrated Red Corian bathtub and sink complete the block colour aesthetic.

A recessed window bench seat sits opposite, complementing the bold colour choice used elsewhere in the room and offering a peaceful spot for reading and reflection.
