salotto m. [der. of “sala”]-1.(archit.) Usually the biggest and most prestigious room of a house, designated as the reception room and frequently used to have meals. 2.(estens.)[social, cultural or artistic gathering that takes place periodically in a defined headquarter, frequently in private residences.]

We used matching veneers on the doors and panels of the lower level cupboards, offering additional concealed storage.

We were delighted to be approached by Italian studio llabb Architettura to work with them to realise the joinery centrepieces in the Salotto of a London flat for their Australian client. We undertook the technical design, fabrication and installation of both the study desk and storage bench, along with the shelving units, based on the architect’s concept design.

The unique form of the desk and storage add flow to the room, via the curvature of the solid American Black Walnut worktops & shelves.

Subtle cable grommets feature both in the desk and lower shelves, ensuring it is easy to keep leads and wires neat and tidy.

We used a shark-nosed chamfer detail on the edge of the worktop and lower shelves, which is complemented by the smooth curves of the timber planes.

Concealed wall fixings were used throughout, creating a floating effect, and we finished the piece with custom powder coated steel supports, fabricated by Design + Weld, which allows the unit to multitask as additional bench seating when entertaining guests.

We coordinated matching detailing between the desk and the shelving unit, with solid American Black Walnut shelves with chamfered edge profiles, and complementary black powder coated pillars running throughout to provide sufficient support for an array of ornaments and books. Subtle upstands add to the impact of each shelf, and the splayed detail on the bottom two levels integrates the joinery into the space and mimics the curves of the desk and storage opposite.
